Dixon marca el paso en el warmup
Scott Dixon lideró el warm-up para Chip Ganassi Racing, superando a Poleman, Josef Newgarden por más de 0.2 segundos.

Dixon superó el recorrido de 1.786 millas en 59.1394 segundos para vencer al Penske-Chevrolet del campeón defensor y al ganador de la carrera en Toronto, Newgarden por 0.2290 segundos. Ryan Hunter-Reay y Marco Andretti fueron terceros y cuartos para Andretti Autosport-Honda, por delante de Graham Rahal en el Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing-Honda.
Ed Jones fue sexto en el segundo auto de Ganassi, su mejor tiempo con llantas rojas, mientras que Conor Daly fue séptimo para Harding Racing. Aunque saldrá P11 hoy.
Simon Pagenaud y Will Power, los titulares de la segunda fila, fueron noveno y décimo tercero, mientras que Rene Binder de Juncos Racing tuvo la mejor actuación de su corta carrera en IndyCar, siendo el 16º más rápido, a 1.3772 segundos del mejor tiempo.
King chocó vio que el ECR-Chevy sufría un daño bastante pesado, pero reparable en la parte delantera izquierda.
Tony Kanaan hizo girar su AJ Foyt Racing-Chevy en la última vuelta de la sesión y se detuvo a un costado en la pista, afortunadamente sin ser chocado por los demás autos.
