Marko: "Sergio Pérez está al nivel de Verstappen en carrera"

Helmut Marko, asesor deportivo de Red Bull en la Fórmula 1, asegura que Sergio "Checo" Pérez se encuentra a la altura de Max Verstappen en ritmo de carrera y confía en que el mexicano "se acercará mucho" al holandés en clasificación.

Sergio Pérez finalmente tuvo su primera prueba de fuego con la escudería Red Bull el pasado fin de semana en el Gran Premio de Bahréin, donde logró avanzar hasta la quinta posición después de verse forzado a iniciar desde el pitlane por un problema con su coche durante la vuelta de formación.

La actuación le valió a "Checo" recibir elogios por parte de Christian Horner, quien declaró "me quito el sombrero ante Pérez" y también del ingeniero en jefe del equipo, Paul Monaghan, quien valoró la "claridad mental" del nacido en Guadalajara.

Ahora se sumó la palabra de una voz con muchísimo peso dentro del equipo de Milton Keynes, la de Marko, quien analizó el debut de Pérez con Red Bull en una entrevista para el canal de YouTube de Formel1.de, publicación hermana de Motorsport Network.

"La velocidad en carrera está al mismo nivel que Verstappen. Cuando estuvo en el aire limpio, marcó los mismos tiempos. Hasta ahí, todo bien", comenzó el austriaco.

Un aspecto que quedó en el debe por parte de Pérez fue la clasificación, ya que el sábado cometió un error en su primer intento en la Q2 y luego no logró pasar a la Q3, siendo 11° en la sesión.

"Por desgracia, no fue así en la clasificación", continuó Marko. "Lo positivo fue que perdió la mayor parte del tiempo en una curva, la 1. Ya durante las pruebas de pretemporada. En el sector 3 fue más rápido que Max en promedio. El único problema es: tienes que conseguir toda la vuelta".

De todos modos, el asesor de Red Bull no duda: "Estamos convencidos de que se acercará mucho a Max también en la clasificación".

Además:

Yuki Tsunoda, el debutante de AlphaTauri, tuvo una destacada actuación en Bahréin en la que finalizó en la novena posición para confirmar la muy buena forma mostrada en la pretemporada.

Preguntado si el joven piloto japonés podía transformarse en una amenaza para "Checo" Pérez en el futuro, Marko respondió: "Esperemos y veamos. Tuvimos la primera de 23 carreras. Veamos cómo se desarrolla. Tenemos un increíble diamante en bruto en Yuki. No vamos a quemarlo. Veremos su evolución y tomaremos nuestras decisiones en el momento oportuno".
